My Biography: Updated Finally on 2/18/07!
Hi there! My name is Heather and I am currently a 25-year-old Software Engineer working at Viecore, located in Mahwah, New Jersey. You want to know about me? Well read on at your own risk:
Back to my history (aka more information than you probably want to know!). I was born in Miami, Florida on July 23rd, 1981 and lived in Kendal, a suburb just outside Miami, until the age of 5. Then, when my dad's job was moved, we set up camp in Nanuet, New York. Classic suburbia - a nice place to live with rather easy access to Westchester and NYC as well as New Jersey.
After graduating from Nanuet High School in 1999, it was off to Binghamton University, where I spent a hefty amount of time weighing the virtues of a degree in engineering or computer science. After settling in on CS, I focused on a degree, and was able to fit in a mathematics minor, and graduated in the Spring of 2003. Not even a month later, I was off at Computer Associates for their bootcamp program, and was placed into a position in development. So there I was for a while on Long Island, being an adult and participating in the "real world". Who woulda thunk it?
As many people in the Software Industry are well aware, 2003 was not exactly the ideal time to be starting a career in my field! While I gave Computer Associates a fair chance, it became clear to me after a while that this wasn't the position where I was going to find the day-to-day satisfaction that I was looking for. After a hefty job search, and Samantha's glowing recommendation, I wound up settling on a position as a Techincal Consultant at Viecore, Inc. In a short amount of time with this growing company, I have been provided with an assortment of new and exciting challenges and opportunities, for which I am VERY thankful.
My primary hobby is music, and I have been involved in it as long as I can remember. I learned to play the piano at age 6, and started playing the violin at age 7. While I had SOME positive experience with the piano, the violin is where I really found my niche, especially with the music department at Nanuet High School, Rockland Youth Philharmonic, and Clarkstown Summer Theatre Festival. When I got to school, I immediately immersed myself in the Binghamton University Music Department, and participated in the Symphony Orchestra, the Chamber Music program, and private studio lessons. I can truly say that it has helped me keep my sanity in the crazy world that was college. On Long Island, I participated in two different community groups, including the West Islip Symphony and the Sound Symphony. After settling back into life on the West side of the Hudson River, I joined the Ridegwood Symphony Orchestra, which once again serves the purpose of inserting some pure musical joy amongst the rigor of working a 40+ hour week behind a computer!
I addition to making music, I love Broadway shows. I've seen a BUNCH of them, including Les Miserables (twice), Miss Saigon (3 times), The Lion King (twice), Phantom Of the Opera (3 times - can't you tell I'm the kind of person to watch movies OVER and over???), How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (starring Matthew Broderick & Meghan Mullaly from 'Will & Grace'), Carousel, Showboat, Cats (fell asleep when I was 10, but HEARD it was good!), The Producers, Hairspray, and of course one of my new favorites, Wicked. I also am a fan of various Sci-Fi and Fantasy series, such as Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Battlestar Galactica, and basically anything Joss Whedon (Including 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer', 'Angel', and 'Firefly').
Of course I cannot forget Harry Potter. After being told by enough people how much I'd love these books, I decided to give in and read them myself. I was NOT disappointed, and now after having converted more fans than I can count on my fingers, I am eagerly awaiting the 7th book. As for the movies, we had a lot of fun with them, and they are wonderful companions to the books... but read the book first! You won't regret it!
Since you read all of this, then you won't mind a few shout-outs. Love to my Mom & Dad, my sister Lori &; her hubby (and my brother) Rob, my wonderful husband Dave who was kind enough to marry me on July 9th, 2006, and to all my friends: Samantha, Jessica, Sue, Pat, Ken, Dan, Shauna, Amy, and of course the gangs at CA and Viecore. Of course there are many more people so don't be mad 'cause if I tried to type out everyone, then I'd inevitably leave someone out and feel like an awful person :)
I hope you all enjoyed the insight to me and my fascinating life. Enjoy my site!
